Customer Responsibility:

WATERING TIPS:  Quantity!  Your lawn should receive roughly 1 to 1 1/12 inches of water per
week during the hottest, driest months.  Deep watering to a soil depth of at least four to five
inches is recommended once per week.  Light watering that merely dampen the grass are of
little benefit and can actually harm your lawn.  Place an empty coffee can or bucket on your lawn
to determine how long it takes to apply 1-1 1/2 inches of water.

BEST TIME:  Very early morning watering is ideal.  Midday watering, when the weather is hot and
dry, can waste water due to excessive evaporation.  Evening watering will promote disease
problems, as disease is caused by fungi and fungi are generally caused by excessive moisture.
Keep in mind, the key to effective watering is to give your lawn enough moisture to reach the
deep roots of the grass plant.

Signs of Drought:

Early Signs: Walk across your lawn if the grass blades look as though they have taken the
impression of your footsteps you know your lawn does not have enough water.

Serious Drought: Your lawn has turned brown, has a hay like appearance and feel. Your lawn has
gone dormant. It is a natural defence of plants and grass to become dormant even in the
summer months to protect it's self from drought.

Treatment of Drought: Water the lawn once grass begins to discolor and wilt. If you can’t keep
the grass green, water your lawn with at least one inch of water every 4 - 6 days, which will keep
the plants alive even if they are dormant.
Once your lawn has turned brown and lost all color during drought dormancy, it will take several
weeks of steady watering to spur regrowth from the crown area of the plants.
